The event was kicked off with an open session to introduce and teach the basics of football to first-time players. There were five stations with each progressing in its technical drills, culminating in a small-sided game. This event ran for about an hour before the main event which was the round-robin tournament among the six teams.

The tournament kicked off with Bulte Ladies playing Wits Development Team and ended with Bantwana College playing Euphoria Women’s FC from Pretoria in the final match of the day. BBantwana College managed to pull off a 3–0 victory to walk away with the trophy and gold medals, having won all four of their matches while scoring 12 goals and conceding none.

Bantwana College’s Jordyn Ramsden was named goal keeper of the tournament as she kept five clean sheets and made a remarkable penalty save in the final. More celebrations followed when Caitlin Eastwood ended up as the player of the tournament.

According to coach Theo Buttress, the tournament was held to give shine to local women’s football. “This event was planned to promote women in local football and the awareness within the various local communities that women football is on the rise. More and more girls and women are beginning to play the sport that is one of the fasted growing sports in the world.”
