Break the ice of your fitness goals

FARILAND – Run Zone Athletics Club will host 5km, 10km and 15km run/walks to cater to every community member on 21 July.

Gauteng’s largest running club will host its inaugural ‘ice breaker’ run to get community members off the couch, sate road running speedsters’ need for speed and also help those training for half marathons.

The Run Zone Fairland Walk Ice Breaker will see roughly 3 000 people hit the streets around Fairland Walk shopping centre for 5km, 10km, and 15km run/walks on 21 July.

“The goal of the event is to create wellness for the community,” said Run Zone Athletics Club owner, Graham Block.

“We want to hold this run every year. Our vision for it is that, because of the various distances and it being a run/walk, it will be good for anyone wanting to start exercising, as well as for the serious 10km road runners.”

Block explained that a handful of half marathons will be held in August and marathons will start in September. Therefore, the 15km run will also prove attractive to runners preparing for these.

“We already have 1 094 members and are the biggest running club in Gauteng despite us only being nearly two years old. I believe it is because of all that we offer the community [in our runs].”

The weather is cold, Block added, but this is the perfect time to start getting into shape for summer.

More information about the run and tickets for it can be found at www.entrytime.com

Tickets will also be sold at the shopping centre from 19 to 21 July.

Run Zone Athletics Club is based at Northcliff Country Club after moving from Berario Recreation Centre a year ago.
