Bantwana College hosts women’s soccer tournament
NORTHCLIFF – Mito Stars leaves Bantwana College's first tournament of the year with a gold trophy and medals.
NORTHCLIFF – Bantwana College NPC Football Club held its first tournament of the year.
Women’s football is slowly returning to full action once again as clubs look forward to the beginning of the 2019 season. Teams from around Johannesburg were given the chance on 2 March to get a test run of their new players, coaches, and strategies at the pre-season soccer tournament. The founder of Bantwana, Theo Buttress, was ecstatic with the turnout, commitment and level of play that was on display on the day.
The tournament was a non-competitive one but trophies and medals were up for grabs. Mito Stars stood out throughout the tournament and had their hard work rewarded at the end of it as they were ultimately crowned the winners. As they celebrated their victory, the other teams applauded them, showing their respect to the team and love for the game.
Buttress said this was just one of the tournaments and events they have planned for the year. The tournament provided his team, coached by Liezl Windvogel, a chance to tweak a few things going forward. Though they never won the tournament, they were more than happy to have provided a platform for the development of women’s soccer.
Buttress thanked every coach, player, parent, sponsor, and people involved in the organising of the tournament for their commitment to women’s soccer.
