Meet Bantwana College’s new head coach

NORTHCLIFF – New coach aims to keep the winning and development spirit as she takes over the reins.

NORTHCLIFF – The Bantwana College Football Club is ready to take the team to greater heights.

Non-profit organisation Bantwana College Football Club is proud to announce that they have appointed Liezl Windvogel as their new head coach. The appointment, which took place at the end of 2018, is a welcomed one as Windvogel brings years of playing experience to the team that is already being moved into the right direction. In their first season of competitive football last year, the team finished fourth in their league and walked away with a piece of silverware and Windvogel was a part of the winning team as a player.

The Manchester United and Mamelodi Sundowns fan that is Windvogel originally hails from Port Elizabeth and that is where her love for football began. She said it all started when she was introduced to street soccer at a young age and she never regretted kicking that ball as it led her on an unforgettable journey of soccer. When she moved up to Johannesburg that love did not fade away at all. She said, “The first thing I did when I got to Johannesburg was to find a soccer club.”

She now switches roles from a player to a coach. “The switch from player to coach is an exciting one. The players are beginning to open up to me as a coach and this makes things easier.”

Windvogel said the change has been a frightening but exciting one as it comes with new and bigger challenges but she believes she is more than ready to conquer them. “I have big ideas, I just need to remind myself to break them down into smaller goals and ideas and ensure that I achieve them.”

She has been given a mandate for the season and plans to align those with her personal goals for the season. One of Windvogel’s goals is to strengthen the feeling of family and togetherness in the teams. She said this will be done through communication between herself, the players and the founder and manager of the club Theo Buttress. “Communication is important. We depend on each other and share essential things and understand one another.”
