Growing Champions put in a championship-worthy performance in beating Robertsham Callies Football Club 2–0 in a Rand Central League U17 fixture at Reddford House Northcliff.

The league’s top two teams battled it out for the three points and Sam Toweel-Moore, the founder of Growing Champions (GC), was ecstatic with the result.

“We as GC are absolutely super proud of the heart of these champions,” she said.

Her team controlled the game from the first whistle and their solid midfield and defence restricted the style of play that Robertsham wanted to implement.

Toweel-Moore attributed their dominating performance to the change in their training schedule.

“For the last few weeks, our guys have been slumping and we decided to give them some recovery time. We felt that fatigue had kicked in so we decided to cut back on training and give the boys a chance to recover physically and mentally.”

This decision seems to have done the trick as two first half goals from their fantastic striker Wandile Billings was enough to give them the victory. She commended Wandile’s efforts as he had just returned from a lengthy spell on the sidelines following a serious injury.

With two games left in the season, the team plans to continue their run of form.

Toweel-Moore concluded that the boys continuously personified the motto of Growing Champions, Never Settle, as they always gave it more in their studies, personal lives and sports engagements.
