Ultimate glory was on offer in the finals of the annual Discovery Knockout Cup on 9 August.
Pirates Sports Club, Greenside, saw eight soccer matches played between the best primary school sides in Joburg.
The field was busy from the afternoon until the evening but no fans, friends or family became bored while cheering their teams on from the stands.
Local schools, Saxonwold Primary School and King Edward VII Preparatory School (KEPS) drew 1–1 in the U14 boys final.
According to tournament rules, the teams had to share the trophy.
But KEPS’s U13 boys won their own trophy when they beat Bedfordview Primary School 2–1.
The girls’ matches were arguably more exciting than the boys’ matches.
Wendywood Primary School found itself in both the U12 and U14 girls finals despite having little success in the competition in recent years.
They drew against Cliffview Primary School 1–1 in a close U12 final to share the trophy, and they were easily the better team in the U14 final against De La Salle Holy Cross College.
Wendywood won that final 2–0.
