Olympic dreams for Linden’s star swimmer

LINDEN – Hoërskool Linden's star swimmer Mariella Venter returned from the 2018 Commonwealth Games at the Gold Coast, Australia, ready for her next challenge.

Hoërskool Linden’s star swimmer Mariella Venter returned from the 2018 Commonwealth Games at the Gold Coast in Australia with some good times under her swimming cap.

With her Australian memories over, for now, Venter is now focused on the 2018 Youth Olympic Games that will take place in Buenos Aires in Argentina later this year.

Venter qualified for the Youth Olympics after winning the 100m backstroke event in a record time of 00:01:02.18 at the South African National Aquatic Championships in Port Elizabeth.

At the 2018 Commonwealth Games, Venter competed against swimming powerhouses from all over the world in the Women’s 50m, 100m, and 200m backstroke events.

Venter did a fantastic job qualifying for the Women’s 50m Backstroke semi-final with a time of 00:00:29.88, but finished in last position when the event took place in a time of 00:00:29.58.

In the 100m event, Venter was eliminated in the third heat, finishing sixth in a time of 00:01:03.39, and in the 200m event, she was eliminated in heat two, finishing fourth in a time of 00:02:14.82.
