While the B-teams will compete in the four venues, the A-teams are currently competing in George. Johannesburg is represented by a men’s and women’s team and players were selected from local clubs in the community.

Men’s and women’s teams from provinces such as Limpopo, North West and Western Province will be divided into two sections and compete against teams in the same section.

The tournament will be played on a league basis and each game shall be played over 21 ends split into three sets of seven ends each.

Jono Franks is one of the players in the Johannesburg Bowls Association team.

One point is awarded to the team that wins a set, two points for the winning team per game and two bonus points are awarded for the overall winner.

Ferndale Bowls Club chairperson Tina Straw said it is an honour to host a national tournament.

“This is not the first time we have hosted a tournament of such stature which is good for us because the judges are very strict on what they expect from a hosting venue. It proves that we have one of the best lawns in Johannesburg,” said Straw.

The finals will be played at the Roosevelt Bowls Club on 16 March.
