The win moves Pirates to fourth position (out of 12 teams in the province), and with half the season left, gives the club a strong platform to launch the final push for the trophy.

“What we need to do is keep the momentum going and hope the weather holds up in our upcoming games,” said team captain, Arthur Moseley.

He said his players’ batting and bowling had been excellent of late, but their fielding had neither been good nor bad.

“Fielding is something we practise every week so we are always working on it.”

He said the pitch at Randburg offered more to bowlers and it helped that he won the toss and sent Randburg in to bat, as they could only score 166 all out in 38 overs.

Pirates’ bowling was on point and tested the batsmen with many a delivery seaming off the soft pitch and narrowly missing the edge.

Rhys Unsworth was the most successful bowler and finished with 5/33 off his 9,3 overs.

Pirates took advantage of a drying pitch under the afternoon sun and opener Chris Taylor carried his bat with a merciless 99 not out off 63 balls to win the game.
