Marks Park Cricket Club Hackfest 2017 tournament a success

EMMERENTIA – Cricketers give it their all during the Marks Park Cricket Club Hackfest 2017 tournament.

The Marks Park Cricket Club Hackfest 2017 tournament was a great success, with cricketers giving it their best shot.

It was the first time the club hosted this particular tournament and its founder and organiser Yasser Ditta said U11, U13, U15 and senior teams participated over three days.

“The junior and senior cricket tournaments are played separately at different venues,” said Ditta. “The organising committee spent six months planning the tournament and putting together a group of volunteers from the club made up of senior players, parents of junior players and the club administrators who were all committed to ensuring the success of the tournament.”

He added that there were prizes for the best team supporters, the best team spirit and the best selfie of the tournament. Participating team, the Rebels, displayed the best team spirit because they didn’t have the best players but they played together as a team to beat tough opposition and made the semi-finals.

The tournament’s coordinator Fayaaz Limbada said they aimed to get more people involved in cricket and raise funds to install lights so games can be held at night at the club.

U15 teams Queens vs Queens High School during a group A match in the Marks Park Cricket Club Hackfest 2017 tournament.

“The tournament was a resounding success for the club and we received many compliments from both players and spectators,” said Ditta. “We have learnt many lessons from the experience and will use it to improve the tournament that we hope will become an annual event on the Marks Park Sports Club calendar.”
