WARNING: Multiple road closures for CityRun

JOBURG – Residents are warned of roads which will be closed this weekend.

Multiple roads will be closed in Johannesburg on 23 and 24 September for the FNB Joburg 10K CityRun.

The following roads will be closed:

  • Simmonds Street, from Jeppe Street to Prichard Street, all five lanes will be closed from Saturday 3pm until Sunday 12pm
  • Simmonds Street, from Bree Street to Jeppe Street, all five lanes closed from Saturday 6pm until Sunday 12pm
  • Jeppe Street, from Miriam Makeba Street to Henry Nxumalo Street, all three lanes closed from Saturday 6pm until Sunday 2pm
  • Bree Street, from Henry Nxumalo Street to Miriam Makeba Street, both lanes closed from Saturday 6pm until Sunday 2pm
  • Kerk Street, from Pixley Ka Isaka Seme Street to Harrison Street, full closure of walkway from Saturday 3pm until Sunday 2pm
  • Henry Nxumalo Service Road, from Jeppe Street to Bree Street, from Saturday 6pm until Sunday 2pm
    n Margret Mcingana Street, from Jeppe Street to Bree Street, full closure from Saturday 6pm until Sunday 2pm
  • Jeppe Street, from Harrison Street to Pixley Ka Isaka Seme Street, all four lanes closed from Saturday 6pm until Sunday 12pm
  • Fraser Street, from Bree Street to Jeppe Street, full closure from Saturday 6pm until Sunday 12pm
    n Bree Street, from Miriam Makeba Street to Ntemi Piliso Street, all three lanes closed on Sunday 5am until 12pm
  • Pritchard Street, from Harrison Street to Pixley Ka Isaka Seme Street, all four lanes on Sunday 5am until 9.30am
  • Simmonds Street, from Pritchard Street to Marshall Street, all four lanes closed on Sunday 7am until 9.30am
  • Marshall Street, from Simmonds Street to End Street, all three lanes closed on Sunday 7am until 10am
    n End Street, from Marshall Street to Albertina Sisulu Road single carriageway, both lanes closed on Sunday from 7am to 10am
  • Albertina Sisulu Road, from End Street to Van Beek Street, four lanes closed on Sunday from 7am to 10.30am
  • Albertina Sisulu Street, from Van Beek Street to Bertrams Road, two lanes closed with contraflow traffic on opposite two lanes on Sunday from 7am to 10.30am
  • Bertrams Road, from Albertina Sisulu Road to Van Beek Street, on Sunday 7am until 10.45am
  • Charlton Terrace, from Van Beek Street to Joe Slovo Drive, on Sunday 7am until 10.45am
  • Saratoga Avenue, from Joe Slovo Drive to Nugget Street, both lanes closed on Sunday 7am until 11am
  •  Wolmarans Street, from Nugget Street to Claim Street, Rea Vaya lane and right lane closure, on Sunday 7am until 11am
  • Banket Street, from Street Leyds to Smit Street, both lanes closed on Sunday 7am until 11am
  • Wolmarans Street, from Claim Street to Edith Cavell Street, right lane and Rea Vaya lanes closed on Sunday 7am until 11am
  • Wolmarans Street, from Edith Cavell Street to Eloff Street, two right lanes closed on Sunday 7am until 11am
  • Wolmarans Street, from Eloff Street to Joubert Street, right lanes and parking bays closed on Sunday 7am until 11am

  •  Melle Street, from Empire Road to Ameshoff Street, all lanes closed on Sunday 7am until11am
  •  Ameshoff Street, from Melle Street to Jan Smuts Avenue, all lanes closed on Sunday 6am until 12pm
  • Jan Smuts Avenue, from Empire Road to Stiemens Street, all lanes closed on Sunday 7am until 11.30am
  • Bertha Avenue, from Nelson Mandela Bridge to Stiemens Street, three lanes closed on Sunday 7am until 11.30am
  • Queen Elizabeth on-ramp, from De Beer Street to Nelson Mandela Bridge, both lanes closed on Sunday 7am until 11.30am
  • Nelson Mandela Bridge, from Smit Street to Carr Street, all lanes closed on Sunday 7.30am until 11.30am
  • Ntemi Piliso Street, from Carr Street to Bree Street, both lanes closed on Sunday 7am until 11.30am
  • Miriam Makeba Street, from President Street to Bree Street, single carriage-way closure on Sunday 7am until 11.30am
  • Miriam Makeba Street, from Gwigwi Mrwebi Street to Jeppe Street, single carriage-way closure on Sunday 7am until 11.30am.

Speaking at the media launch of the race held at FNB Bank City on 22 September, runner Stephen Mokoka said he would make Sibusiso Nzima and Lucky Mohale work hard to catch him.

“The race is tough with all its hills, especially by Constitution Hill, but I have been gaining shape and everything is going well for me,” said the South African record holder for 10km road runs.
