Tut gives UJ a football lesson
AUCKLAND PARK – The match was a repeat of the 2016 Varsity football final and yet again Tut came out victorious.
The University of Johannesburg (UJ) soccer team suffered its second loss in three matches as they went down 2–0 to Tshwane University of Technology (Tut).
The match was a repeat of the 2016 Varsity football final and yet again Tut came out victorious. A penalty converted by captain Mogau Mphahlele gave Tut the lead in the 69th minute.
Tut fans were in a celebratory mood after the first goal and they became even more animated as the match was put to bed in the 87th minute when substitute Thabiso Lebitso scored. UJ did manage to have six shots on target but Tut made the most of their three shots that were goalward bound.
Prior to the match, UJ coach Mandla Zwane was upbeat following his team’s victory against the University of Pretoria and decided to keep the same team for the match against Tut. Zwane said, “We didn’t change the team because if it’s not broken why fix it?” He was, however, concerned, that his team had only scored one goal in two matches but did highlight that they had also only conceded one goal.
Tut midfielder Keabetswe Mokwena, who was awarded FNB Player of the Match, thanked his teammates for contributing towards his performance and hoped for more of the same. UJ plan to return to winning ways on 17 August away against the University of Witwatersrand.
