UJ squashes Stellenbosch University

AUCKLAND PARK – Competing in the annual University Sports South Africa (USSA) squash tournament that was hosted at UJ, the home team defended their court with pride.

 

 

University of Johannesburg (UJ) enjoyed victories in squash as they defeated Stellenbosch University (SU) in thrilling matches.

Competing in the annual University Sports South Africa (USSA) squash tournament that was hosted at UJ, the home team defended their court with pride on 6 July. In the first match, UJ’s Jennifer Preece recorded three straight wins against Danielle Cunningham of SU. The match saw both players giving their all but Preece got the better of her opponent. She won the first game 11–6 and went on to win the next two games by the same margin 11–4.

The second match was more intense as Tyrone Dial (UJ) had a tough opponent in Justin Wessen (SU). In a match where Dial showed his frustrations whenever he lost points, he managed to come out victorious in all three of his games. In the first game, he won narrowly 11–9, the second 11–7 and the third 11–8.

The semi-finals and finals of the USSA Squash tournament will be played on 7 July at UJ’s Auckland Park campus.
