300 cyclists brace this year’s Delta Dash

DELTA PARK – Scores of cyclists brace this year's six-hour Delta dash endurance challenge.

This year’s six-hour Delta Dash MTB Endurance Challenge saw about 300 cyclists competing for the prize on a fantastic day out on their bikes.

The improved route with A and B lines was described by many as tougher than expected, while at the same time offering a great challenge.

“This is certainly an endurance challenge but a challenge enjoyed by many, who come back year after year to defend their titles or spend the day racing around the route,” said the race marketing and sponsorship officer, Sue Greaves.

She said it was also much more of a leisurely ride with lots of time spent in the transition zone, catching up with a cold beer and lots of cycling talk.

“The laps were about 6km with about 95m of climbing on each lap,” she said.

This year’s solo male winner, Julius Cobbett, who has taken the title for the last three consecutive years, completed 19 laps with a total distance of just over 100km.

He was followed by Franswua van Staden and Greg Harrup with 17 laps. Bianca Cooper was the first solo woman with 14 laps.

The hotly contested men’s team category, with all four of the top teams doing 20 laps, was won by Grenade Gamblers, followed by Grenade Grinders.

The One Hill Wonders won the mixed category and the junior men’s category was taken by GTSA with 15 laps and Linden Fitsry coming in second.

The women’s team category was won for the second time in a row by Mag-Num with 17 laps.
