Baseball brings the thunder

EMMARENTIA – The Gauteng A and U23 teams battled it out at the National Baseball Championships.

The National Baseball Championships were highly successful, regardless of the rainy weather at Marks Park Sports Club, Emmarentia.

The Gauteng A match against Gauteng U23 in the senior division was attended by eager spectators.

Due to the rainy weather, the match had to be stopped but got underway again with Gauteng A winning 12–7.

Gauteng U23 batter Elken Tema, who said he was inspired to start playing the sport in 2006, described the match against the Gauteng A team as tough.

“There was no room for mistakes but that’s how baseball is, the more errors you make as a team the more the other team is going to have the advantage to overcome us as a team,” said Tema.

Gauteng A pitcher, Kieran Cree said the most challenging part of the match was the wet weather that made the pitch difficult to play on.

“The overall tournament was well organised, the hosts did a good job of accommodating all teams and it was a very competitive tournament. I look forward to participating in the tournament next year in Durban,” added Cree.
