Kajee brothers fire up the track

JOBURG – Moosa Kajee, a nine-year-old go-kart racer from Greenside, has landed himself the opportunity to show off his skills and compete at the UAE Rotax Max Challenge on 17 March in Abu Dhabi, capital of the United Arab Emirates and home to the famous Yas Marina Circuit.

Moosa first took an interest in cars and motorsport at the mere age of three.

“Moosa loved looking at Car magazines. Once he spotted go-karting, so he asked me what it was,” said Imraan Kajee, his father.”I explained it to him and he immediately wanted me to take him to a race.”

“Fabienne and the mechanics know exactly how to handle Moosa because he isn’t afraid to talk; he holds his own so well that I let him do all the talking,” quipped Imraan.”I mean, he shows up at soccer practice with a game plan to hand to the coach.”

Moosa currently races against children who have three to four years of experience but he doesn’t let that intimidate him. Instead, Moosa, being the confident child that he is, uses it to motivate him to push the limits, which has allowed him to jump two classes ahead, from Cadet to Mini-Max, in one year.

Moosa won first place in the second and eighth round in the Gauteng Northern Regionals at Vereeniging, as well as 1st place in the 2016 African Open Championship at Zwartkops.

“He raises eyebrows from the other parents because their children are training all the time. Some parents even pull their children out of school early to train but Moosa is hardly ever there,” said Imraan.

Moosa’s younger brother, six-year-old Aadam, seems to be continuing the trend as he competes as a promising motorcycle racer.

Their dad said that although Aadam and Moosa may be competitive with each other, they stick together as brothers should, always looking out for each other.

“I don’t know where it came from. Our families played sports but never nationally. We’re more academic, so I don’t know where Aadam or Moosa got this passion for motorsports from,” said Imraan.

Aadam took home 3rd place in the fifth round of the Gauteng MotoSA Regionals MotoGP in Vereeniging last year.

With Valentino Rossi as his idol and his big brother as his mentor, Aadam is most likely take the track by storm on two powerful wheels.
