For the love of golf

LINDEN – Parkview Golf Club member Terry Eaton has been a golfer for over 56 years.

Terry Eaton (66) has been playing golf for 56 years and is still counting.

The Linden resident’s interest in golf started when he was inspired by his father to play the sport. Before he became a member of the Parkview Golf Club, he was a member of the Irene Country Club for 27 years.

Eaton said he decided to join Parkview Golf Club because of the lovely atmosphere, its proximity to his home and the club’s ‘fantastic members’.

The golf fanatic won a number of titles such as the Empangeni Club Championships in the late 70s and was president of the Zulu Golf Association for six years in the early to late 80s.

His most recent victory was when he won the Parkview Golf Club Senior Championship on 2 October. “I won by 79 points overall over 18 holes and everyone who participated played well,” said Eaton.

Besides being a dedicated a golfer, he is also a father to three daughters. He said his twin daughters are also professional golfers and one of them, Megan Eaton, is the Parkview Golf Club’s assistant golf director.

“Besides playing golf, I have my own construction company that keeps me busy during the week. On weekends, I enjoy playing golf and spending time with my family. My advice to other golfers is to practice and be passionate about playing. The great thing about golf is the friendships you make while getting good exercise, which keeps you healthy and fit.”
