Women’s race entries close tomorrow

JOBURG – Do your part in the fight against breast cancer on Women's Day by running in aid of PinkDrive.

Women runners have until midnight tomorrow (29 July) to book their place in the anticipated Totalsports Women’s Race.

The annual race starts at Mary Fitzgerald Square, Newtown, at 8am on 9 August, Women’s Day, winds its way through the streets of Joburg and over Nelson Mandela Bridge and finishes at the square again. There are the 5km run/walk and the main event, the 10km run/walk.

Last year , Lebogang Phalula from Soweto won the main event, in a record time of 00:33:32, and Lebogang Ramela (15) won the 5km event.

Runners must pay R60 to take part in the 5km, and no running licence is needed. The main event costs R100, and temporary licences can be purchased for R20. Funds from the run go towards PinkDrive, a non-profit company that fights breast cancer in women.

T-shirts and finishers bracelets will be given to runners on the day.
