Tang Soo Do 100

NORTHCLIFF – Alchemy Cresta along with Wits TSD martial arts make a historic win.

A historic century (100 medals) was won at the recent SA Tang Soo Do National  Championships by students from Alchemy Cresta and Wits TSD Martial Arts  teams under coach Gregory Hart.

“This is the first time a South African team has scored 100 medals at the National Championships. At the championships the students competed in Forms Kata, weapons forms, point fighting, team synchronised forms, sword forms and sword sparring,” said Hart.

He explained that Tang Soo Do is a Korean form of martial arts, which besides being renowned for its own spectacular flying kicks, also incorporates moves from the Japanese and Chinese martial art disciplines. “TSD epitomises self-control, self-discipline, self-knowledge, self-confidence, a fighting spirit and respect for all,” expressed Hart.

Hart also said that South African TSD Martial Arts exponents are recognised worldwide as among the best, and since winning the World Championships both in 2003 and 2005 when SA hosted the World Championships. “TSD National Team, has gone on to win more world titles as a team and as individual competitors,” said Hart.

Hart, who is the master at the Northcliff based dojo, proudly divulged that the latest spectacular win by the TSD SA National Team, was a total of 71 medals at the US World Tang Soo Do Championships in Las Vegas, in 2015, with Alchemy Dojang winning 28 of the those medals.

“By participating in international tournaments, the South African TSD National Team is able to learn and to promote the latest training methods keeping SA Martial Arts up to date, dynamic and growing,” said Hart.

The victorious team will go on to participate in the Arnold Sports and Fitness 27 to 29 May. Hart concluded that the Arnold Schwarzenegger Expo will take place over five levels combined with numerous multi-sport events.
