Franklin D Roosevelt Primary School (FDR) hosted an inter-house soccer and netball tournament for pupils from Grade R to Grade 7.

FDR head coach Eland Mabokela said that the inter-house tournament took place on 2 April, and is an annual sporting event that encourages pupils to participate in sporting activities as much as possible.

Harrison house won by 22 points, second place went to Taylor house with 21 points and Brunton house came in third place with 10 points.Taylor house won the netball tournament by 32 points, Harrison came in second place with 31 points and Brunton house won third place with 28 points.

“The pupils are aware of the inter-house tournament from the beginning of the year and prepare to participate in it. In particular, the soccer teams practise twice a week and in the second term, pupils play inter-school soccer every Wednesday. It is not based on who the best sportsperson is, every pupil gets an opportunity to participate,” explained Mabokela.

He added that an award ceremony will take place during the school’s assembly on 15 April.

FDR netball co-ordinator and U13 coach Thobile Miya said she hopes to compile an actual team for the inter-school competition. During the tournament they get to see the pupils’ potential and also motivate them.

“The tournament was a fair game, the teachers were all involved in the overall running of the day and I am grateful for their support and participation,”said Miya.
