Men and their (volley)balls

MELVILLE – Meet a Melville man who knows how to serve up a storm on a volleyball court.

Jamaine Naidoo (29) is a one-of-a-kind sales representative who can sell you products and also challenge you to a tough volleyball game.

Having recently moved up from KwaZulu-Natal, Naidoo now stays in Melville. He also participated in the Flying Fish National Volleyball Series last month. With his partner, Warren Sieberts, he was placed fourth in the men’s category and will participate in the final at Rhodes University during their orientation week festivities next year.

“I think my partner and I did extremely well. We have only played three tournaments together and we have reached the top four in this last event in Joburg. The Flying Fish events are very competitive and there are no easy games. You always have to stay focused and keep training to be better,” Naidoo said. Next year, Naidoo plans on travelling to China to participate in two world tours from 12 to 24 April.

However, Naidoo’s volleyball journey had humble beginnings. When he was 12, Naidoo decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and play indoor volleyball. As he grew older, he focused more on beach volleyball but still plays for an indoor team called Quantum.

Naidoo became passionate about volleyball and is dedicated to the sport. To keep fit and beach ready, Naidoo trains in the gym five times a week with an additional four training sessions on a volleyball court.

Naidoo is no stranger to competition and has played in the Youth African Nations Cup, Senior African Nations Cup, in South African National Club champs and in a few world tours.

His family’s love and support is what Naidoo said has gotten him so far, as they have watched every local game he has played. Besides the support, determination and hard work is this professional’s recipe for success.
