Volleyballs fly with fish

EMMARENTIA – Join in some fun in the sun with beach volleyball here in Joburg.

The Flying Fish National Beach Volleyball Series, in partnership with Volleyball South Africa, will bring the beach to Marks Park Sports Club in Emmarentia this weekend for the seventh edition of the tournament.

The second season of this series was launched in Durban in August 2015 and has since been to Pretoria, Polokwane, Cape Town, and Bloemfontein. The series has seen the participation of teams from across South Africa, as well as regional, and international teams from countries such as Botswana, USA, and the Netherlands.

Coupled with all the exciting volleyball action, spectators will also be treated to some stellar performances by multi-award winning Emtee, DJ Ankletap, DJ Doowap, and DJ Switch at the Flavourfest. Throughout the tournament days there will also be other activities that include ‘volleypong’, serving competitions, and table tennis where spectators will stand a chance to win amazing prizes.

Entrance to the tournament is free on all three days. It will start at 8am everyday from 18 to 20 March, with the Flavourfest event happening from 2pm to 7pm on Friday.

“It has been a fantastic series to watch thus far, with the players bringing their ‘A-game’ and putting on spectacular performances. We are very impressed with the growth in interest in the series from players countrywide, making the tournaments even more competitive. We definitely hope to continue in this upward trajectory. We would also like to commend Flying Fish, and Volleyball South Africa for their continued support in growing the series with us,” said Gary Vorser CEO of Sports4U, the series promoters.

The final and eighth tournament of the series to crown the overall winners of the second season will be held at Rhodes University as part of their orientation week festivities. All eight tournaments each carry prize money to the value of R35 000 to R70 000 for the winning teams.
