Pirates thrilled to host a Currie Cup match

GREENSIDE – Pirates Sports Club aims for greatness as they plan to host the Golden Lions Rugby Union for the Currie Cup.

Pirates Sports Club will host The Golden Lions Rugby Union for the Currie Cup which they are set to anchor on 28 May. The club will host the Golden Lions versus Eastern Province match.

Golden Union CEO, Rudolf Straeuli proudly said that they will take the game back to grassroots and the stakeholders. Pirates Sports Club Chairman, Brad Guymer is happy that this sentiment will come to fruition at their club.

Qualifying to host this great event was no easy task, said Guymer. “We sent word of our intent to host the match and we had to follow certain rules … to adhere to the requirements to be eligible.” Although the rules to host were strict, they managed to show that they were a deserving club, he added..

Guymer further explained that the club will now work towards ensuring that the preparations leading to the big day are followed with due diligence. He said that the club will rely heavily on communication to show their success. “We need to see to it that the facility is up to standard, hospitality is up to par and that we get jock approval,” said Guymer. His aspirations for the day are that all that attend the event at the club are catered for properly with good hospitality for the players, fans and the media.

Other clubs that will host are: Alberton against Blue Bulls, Pirates against Eastern Province, Johannesburg Police against Griquas and Roodepoort against SWD Eagles.
