Wargame enthusiasts gather for stellar event

ROOSEVELT PARK – Star Wars X-Wing games take off at Roosevelt Park Bowling Club.

Roosevelt Park Bowls Club hosted the 10th annual Into the Fray War-Gaming Tournament on 28 and 29 November.

War-game lovers from across the country took part in a variety of exciting tactical scenarios, designed to test their wits.

A new event that was run at the tournament was the X-wing Miniatures Game, putting Darth Vader and the Galactic Empire against the Rebel Alliance in a series of action-packed table-top dog-fights.

Chairperson of ThreePlus Wargaming Club, Peter van Dyk, who sponsored the event, was happy to see the support the tournament garnered.

“It was wonderful to see so many like-minded players attending our annual tournament,” said Van Dyk.

He explained that when they first started running these events close to a decade ago, he never anticipated that it would become as popular as it did.

David Roy Putter, Roosevelt Park Bowls Club president was elated to see the number of supporters.

“It was indeed a pleasure seeing so many people of various ages from 16 to 60-year-olds getting together and having so much fun,” said Putter.

With diverse gaming systems such as Warhammer 40K, a science-fiction game that pits the super human soldiers of humanity against many and varied alien races, and Flames of War – a historical war game based on the battles and events of World War II.

“There were games for every taste on display,” concluded Van Dyk.
