GALLERY: Double whammy 6–0 win for SA

MALANSHOF – The SA men and women hockey teams soared to victory again.

Randburg Astro saw a double victory for the South African hockey teams when they played Zimbabwe and Ghana on 28 October.

The matches are particularly important because they will decide which team goes to the finals on 1 November.

SA’s women’s team met Zimbabwe for an interesting game.

Zimbabwe had a strong defence side and stopped numerous attempts at goals by SA.

Both teams resorted to high flicks instead of low-controlled plays which SA had previously used to secure a win against Nigeria.

The final score was 6–0 to SA.

SA men took to the pitch for a much-anticipated game against Ghana. From the first whistle it was clear that it was going to be a highly competitive game. Both teams were on form and used large open spaces between players to direct the ball to victory. The first chaka saw the score at a steady 0–0.

Both teams rushed to the field and with renewed vigour SA’s Matt Guise-Brown smashed in a brilliant goal to see the score 1–0.

Ghana defended gallantly against SA intercepting several passes from SA.

The final whistle blew with SA soaring to a narrow, but successful, win against Ghana with 6–0 score.

The next double match will be played on 29 October with SA women playing Kenya at 4.45pm and the men duel against Namibia at 7pm.
