KG wins doubles title

Westdene – Wheelchair tennis champion Kgothatso Montjane will represent South Africa at the Sardina Open in Italy.

Wheelchair tennis player Kgothatso Montjane recently teamed up with Emmanuelle Morch from France to win the Toyota Open International de L’ile de Re women’s doubles title, in France.

The two players played against Dutch pair Marjolein Buis and Diede de Groot in the final and won 6–4; 4–6 and 10–7.

In the lead-up to the final, third seeds Montjane and Morch won against second seeds Michaela Spaanstra and Kaitlyn Verfuerth in the semifinal 6–3; 6–0.

Due to the rain the match had to be postponed when the pair was leading by a 3–0 set. The match continued on Saturday where the third seeds won by 6–3; 6–0.

Montjane lost the tournament’s women’s singles semi final against second seed Sabine Ellerbrock, in France on 21 September.

The Westdene resident showed great composure during the match that she lost to Ellerbrock of Germany with the score 7–6(2); 7–6(3).

Montjane and South Africa’s top ranked Evans Maripa, who also lives in Westdene, will represent the country at the Sardina Open that is also a ITF level 1 event at Alghero in Italy starting from 22–26 September.
