Sithole loses singles but wins doubles

WESTDENE – Sithole keeps SA's hopes high as he wins the doubles champs at the 2015 Japan Open.

Westdene resident and South African wheelchair tennis champ Lucas Sithole surprised fans when he defeated his number one competitor David Wagner in the 2015 Japan Open doubles championships.

Sithole teamed up with Australian Dylan Alcott and they took on Wagner and his partner Greg Hasterok on 15 May. He explained that they took the final game with a score of 7–5 and 6–2 to win the third Super Series event on the tour.

Alcott and Sithole had a previous face-off in the Quads Single event where Alcott beat him with a score of 6–2; 6–2 on 14 May. Despite playing each other the previous day, the duo showed that team work pays off.

Sithole said, “Dreams like these are made possible with the continued support from Airports Company South Africa, who have invested a great deal of time, effort and financial resources in South African wheelchair tennis. I was hoping to take the singles title again but I am excited that my partner Dylan and I were able to clinch the doubles title.”

Sithole is now off to Turkey to represent SA in the 2015 BNP Paribas World Team Cup that will take place from 25 – 31 May.
