Modise bows out

JOBURG – SAFA president says that Modise is a legend in her own right.

31-Year-old Banyana Banyana striker Portia Modise made an announcement on 19 May and said that she will retire from professional soccer.

Modise said that she will retire with immediate effect and continued by adding that she will still be involved in international soccer.

“My hope is to create more players like myself and with that said I have to thank the media for giving great exposure to women football across South Africa.”

She said her wish now is to create 10 more Portia Modise’s within the national team.

South African Football Association (SAFA) president Dr Danny Jordaan said, “I see her as a mentor to future stars because she has scored more than a 100 goals at international level, she knew how to get the ball into the net.”

Modise concluded and said, “I am not lost to South African Football.”
