Epic journey begins for the mad

RANDPARK RIDGE – Mad 2 Run starts its long run to Cape Town.

Twelve crazy runners have begun their run from Randpark Ridge to Cape Town. They are the Mad 2 Run runners, who started at Trinityhouse Randpark Ridge on 27 March, and will arrive in Cape Town on 4 April.

They will cover 1 490km in a relay run, with a runner running at any given time, day or night, for eight days. Their aim is to raise at least R1 million for the Mad Charity. The charity supports pupils from less-fortunate backgrounds through education and life skills mentorship. “I am definitely ready,” said Parktown resident and runner Ryan Lancefield. “We want to help education in the country, to help people who help themselves. That is our common goal.”

Runner Dylan Hobson, a former pupil at the school, said that he feels good and is ready for the run. In February he said that if every pupil at his former school donates R20, he will run 10km in a mankini. “What he [Hobson] is involved in is something we can be so proud of as a school and something we can support,” said senior deputy principal Clare Pretorius, also in February. The Mad Charity was founded by former Springbok Captain Francois Pienaar.
