EMMARENTIA - Dabulamanzi Canoe Club members raced to the finish line in the Free State on 20 until 21 September

The Dabulamanzi Canoe Club, based at Emmarentia Dam, hosted a two-day Extravanganza canoe race in a little town called Tweeling, in the Free State on 20 until 21 September.

The spectacular race started at the Reitz water works.

Emmarentia resident and a member of Dabulamanzi, Alex Roberts fought for the winning position, finishing third, while Albertskroon residents Siseko Ntondini and Tom Ngcobo finished first and second.

Ntondini was the winner on day one by finishing his race in 02:10:00 and he was also first in the U23 category. Ngcobo came second while Roberts had to settle for third place.

On the second day, Roberts was the man to beat – he finished first across the line in 02:04:00 and won the overall first place Kayak 1 recognition based on time achievement.

“The two days of 30km each were excellent training and preparation for the Hansa Fish River Canoe Marathon which is an attractive A grade which is considered a popular race that takes place in Cradock on the Fish River in October, and covers a distance of 80km,” informed spokesperson of Gauteng Canoe Union Jennie Dallas.

The weekend included live entertainment from the local paddlers, who kept the crowd amused while the local farmers provided excellent meals.
