Clash of the high school Titans

WESTDENE - University of Johannesburg’s Coca Cola high school rugby is in full swing

University of Johannesburg’s Coca Cola high school rugby is in full swing at the UJ Stadium in Westdene.

Hoërskool Florida and Hoërskool Noordheuwel’s first rugby teams starred in a titanic clash in round three of this Coca Cola showcase on 26 August.

At 16 –13 in Florida’s favour at half-time, it seemed victory could go either way but Nories was victorious in the nail-biting final minutes.

The final score of 34 – 24 didn’t convey the whole story – Florida was ahead for most of the second half and was surprised by two daring Norie-tries and conversions at the very end of the game.

“We knew we were lucky,” Noordheuwel coach Marius Swanepoel said after the match.

Noordheuwel’s number 11 Evan Lodewyk was the man of the match.

Hoërskool Monument and Hoërskool Kempton Park took each other on in the next game and Monnas narrowly scraped a win with a score of 29 –28.

The schools participating in this annual rugby-fest include Monument, Klerksdorp, Linden, Marais Viljoen, EG Jansen, Menlopark, Florida, Noordheuwel and Transvalia High School.
