UJ thrashed Tuks 4 – 0

AUCKLAND PARK - UJ continued to dominate the Varsity Football cup by beating the defending champions Tuks 4 - 0.

Fans were treated to another football spectacle when University of Johannesburg collided with Tuks at the University of Pretoria stadium on 4 August.

The much anticipated game saw UJ thrashing the defending champions by beating them 4 – 0 moving to the top of the log.

Last week, UJ beat the Madibaz 3 – 0 and this week they maintained their momentum by ensuring their dominance in the Varsity Cup – this marks Tuks’ first defeat in the season leaving them down in fourth position on the standings.

In a packed stadium, UJ delivered their best by finding the back of the net before half time by making it 1 – 0.

They were further able to extend their lead when Sandro Claro made it 2 – 0 which alarmed the home team. Tuks players were tense as they couldn’t find the back of the net – they threw everything at the newcomers, however failed to produce the results. Tebogo Mandyu destroyed the defending champions’ hopes of winning by scoring the third goal – moments later UJ was 4 – 0 up.

Speaking about the game, head coach Bradley Carnell said, “you are only good as your last game, we did well on beating Tuks but now we are focusing on the upcoming games and hope to stay on top.

The second round of Varsity Football will roll out from 11 August in Pretoria, Mafikeng, Port Elizabeth and Bloemfontein.

The question now is who will stop UJ’s dominance?
