Mustangs lose to Bombers in minor league battle

EMMARENTIA - Bombers overcame the odds by beating Mustangs 24 - 10 at their home ground in Mark's Park sports club.

Mustangs Baseball Club played against Bombers Baseball Club from Weltevreden Park in a minor league game at Mark’s Park Sports Club on 13 July.

The home-ground advantage was not evident for Mustangs as they struggled to overpower the visitors.

Although there were no fans to witness the game, Bombers were in full force and managed to overpower Mustangs dismally by dominating the game, which gave them the upper hand in the league.

So far Bombers played four games in the league games and managed to win two, however, Mustangs still have a long way to go as they played five games and haven’t won any yet.

Ashley Petersen, Bombers’ club chairman, was very excited about the game.

“This is a beautiful game and we are dominating it, but the other team is in its learning phase so they can be forgiven for losing the game,” he said.

Bombers player Jonathan de Villiers, who had the best runs in the game and is often praised by his team mates, said the game met his expectations.

“I love this game. I have been playing for 22 years and it is exciting because there is no pressure. It is unlike football, it is just a beautiful game,” he explained.

First-time baseball player Christine du Plessis from Bombers looked enthusiastic and on top of her game.

“Baseball is nerve-wrecking but I enjoy it a lot, there is no pressure at all,” she said.

However, Mustangs members were not entirely crushed by losing the league game.

Mustangs coach Allen Mccabe was in good spirits and said he is not alarmed by the results.

“My team is new so we don’t care much about losing; we care more about promoting sportsmanship,” he shared.

Bombers was the team with the greater number of runs at the end of the game, which resulted in the final score of 24 – 10.

The league game is underway until September, when the best baseball team will be revealed.
