Dabulamanzi shines at World Canoeing Champs

EMMARENTIA- Dabulamanzi canoe club team members represent well at international games.

Dabulamanzi Canoe Club represented South Africa well at the recently concluded International Canoe Federation World Master’s Canoe Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark.

De la Salle schoolgirl and Victory Park resident Kelly Shuter competed in the marathon long distance event, while under-16 competitor Nicole Smith made her debut on the international canoeing circuit. Nic Oldert from Sandton won a gold medal in the 55-59 age cohort for the K1 event, covering a distance of 17.2km in 1 hour 24 minutes and 6 seconds.

This year's event was touted for its commitment to environmental sustainability and preservation. Some of the highlights included recyclable bottles that could be filled with high quality Danish water, common transportation for all participants to minimize air pollution and carbon dioxide emission and the use of locally produced, organic foods.
