Eddie and Hazel de Vos (principals) of The Salvation Army Firlands Children’s Home write:

The Salvation Army Firlands Children’s Home is extremely grateful to the local community and the Northcliff Melville Times and Randburg Sunr readers for the tremendous support they gave to our Firlands Children’s Home’s Annual Fête held on Saturday, 29 August 2015.

The Firlands Fête is our main fundraiser and its success is vital to keeping the Children’s Home operational and able to care for the up to 60 children that are placed into the Home’s care. Firlands could not survive were it not for the continued loyal support of the local community both of the fête and with goods of every kind and financial support.

The first priority is to ensure that any donation first be used for the benefit of the children in our care. If we are not able to use donations for the children only then will they be set aside for our annual fête. Hence every donation given to Firlands has ‘gone for good!’

The success of the fête is due to the army of volunteers. Of particular mention this year are Linden Police and Ghost Squad Security and Springbok Fidelity who were fantastic in ensuring the safety and security of everyone who attended the fête.

Once again, thank you to everyone who attended the fête. We trust your support was rewarded by you being able to obtain a bargain or two. We look forward to your continued support of our children and Home. See you at next year’s Firlands Fête on the last Saturday of August!

Contrary to a rumour which appears to be circulating in our local community, Firlands Children’s Home is not closing! As with all non-profit organisations times are tough but with the tremendous continued support of the local community Firlands will continue to serve the community in caring for the up to 60 children that are placed into our care at any one time.
