‘Charged for nothing’

NORTHCLIFF – A resident expresses her frustration with her current cellphone service provider.

I read your article about MTN with great interest.

I would love to know what Vodacom has to say about the fact that I have had a contract with them (through Nashua Mobile) since 2002, but I have NEVER been able to make a phone call from my cellphone all this time. We live on the Northcliff hill where we have zero cell reception.

I wrote to Vodacom in 2002, to date (12 years later), I have not heard a word from them in this regard.

Seeing that I have a contract, they only need to go back to check the calls made from my phone. They will see that I have attempted probably five times in the last 12 years to make a call, they will see that in each case, the call was dropped after a couple of seconds. If they notice any successful calls on my phone, they can be sure of the fact that I was away from my residential or office address at the time of making that call.

As far as incoming calls are concerned, I just don’t answer my phone because I know the call will be dropped after a couple of seconds.

It really surprises me that a company can offer somebody a contract, pocket the money every month, but they never wonder why this person doesn’t use the phone for what it is intended for, ie making calls.
