Tshepo Community Development Initiative market plans to provide a fundraising platform along with helping the clients they serve

The Saturday market, which has been running for some time, provides space for the community’s vendors to showcase their stock. There’s a coffee shop and tea garden, as well as fresh produce from the clients that Tshepo CDI serves.

With this in mind, along with its other successful initiatives, Tshepo CDI decided to establish a Saturday market. Not only is this market meant to contribute to the development of the homeless in their journey towards independence, it is also intended to enhance the training of young professionals like social workers, nurses, and other community development workers. “It also provides a fundraising platform, while promoting fresh food, good nutrition, and food security,” said general manager Alet Geldenhuys.

This policy will direct and regulate the functioning of the Tshepo CDI Fresh Produce Market and ensure effective resource utilization, as well as give effect to various laws governing the sale of food and fresh produce while contributing to customer satisfaction.

Geldenhuys said the market, which has been opened for some time, is one that provides a space for the community’s vendors to showcase their stock. “The stall rental is added as a donation for Tshepo, which assists the work we do and the clients we serve,” she explained

It has different independent vendors, a coffee kiosk and tea garden, compost and top soil sold by Tshepo CDI itself, as well as fresh produce that you can harvest out of the organisation’s own organic garden. The garden is run and maintained by the clients that they serve, as part of the programme it runs to help them become independent, and also teach some skills for self-reliance.
