Emzini’s love for the elderly ensures nobody is left behind

The Westdene restaurant is award-winning for its cuisine, but works just as hard at uplifting and caring about the broarder Westdene community they are situated in.

Some residents from Eeufees Oord and Jordan House were treated to an extravagant outing at Emzini to celebrate ageing with grace and humour.

Both facilities house the elderly, many of whom do not have the resources to indulge in the kind of spoils laid out for them at the friendly neighbourhood restaurant.

Delicious food was in abundance for their special guests.

Owners of Emzini, Richard Griffin and Ziggy Ravuku, have been involved in uplifting the community from the day the doors to their ‘restaurant with a heart’ opened.

Overlooking the Westdene Dam, Emzini’s welcoming ambiance, eclectic decor, and award-winning menu is unlike any other in the city. It is the perfect place to host the regular community upliftment projects and engagements they are involved in.

The fancy dress, dinner, and dance for the elderly was ‘beyond fantastic’, says Griffin, the culinary genius behind the success of Emzini.

A literal red carpet was rolled out for the VIPs on the pavement outside the restaurant, immediately bringing smiles and laughter to ensure from the get-go everyone was in a good mood and enjoying the outing.

“The week before we handed out over 170 care packs for the elderly from nearby old age homes, to show them some love. It was so heartwarming to have been a part of a day which brought so much joy to some people who might not have a lot of that at the moment.”

Warm and hearty food was only matched by the warmth of the love from the community to its elderly residents.

He says they never do this alone and have, “so many people to thank who make these outreach events possible. The network of people with big hearts is huge and we are eternally grateful for their kindness and generosity.
