Spearheaded by Leboko, the ‘We Teach Growing Champions Literacy’ programme aims at equipping young leaders with the tools needed to uplift their peers through education.

This initiative has led to the formation of several training programmes based in Kliptown, Northcliff, and Windsor, focussing on the ‘Read for Africa’s Phono-Graphix’ reading programme facilitated by Jenny Taylor.

Benson Moyo, one of the champions, shares how the organisation has profoundly impacted his life.“It sheltered and saved me when I was at my lowest, providing me with education and a family I never had,” he explains.

Benson’s vision for the literacy programme is clear: “I want every child I teach to become their best version, excelling in literacy and academics because of the knowledge I will pass onto them. As Growing Champions, we believe we can only rise by lifting others; they are because we are.”

Rea aspires to ignite hope in children, encouraging them to envision a future filled with possibilities. “I hope our literacy programme expands across the nation, reaching children who feel there is no hope in education because they lack special attention.”

Alex Marie echoes this sentiment, expressing his desire to uplift youth from impoverished environments. “Growing Champions empowers us to become the next generation of change-leaders,” he asserts.

Reflecting on his growth, Alex shares, “I have received opportunities and learned the importance of caring for others. Serving the community is my way of honouring the love and support I’ve received.”
