At just 17 years old, Neo Ramatlotlo has taken a bold stand against gender-based violence (GBV) through his initiative, FearLess Together.

The programme aims to eradicate GBV within communities and schools by promoting healthy masculinity and mental awareness among young boys. Neo believes that being a Growing Champions Change leader means being selfless and inspiring positive change through kindness and service.

“FearLess Together seeks to educate young men about the harmful effects of toxic masculinity, gun violence, and drug use.

Neo’s vision is clear – ‘to cultivate a new generation of men who embody integrity, respect, and dignity’.

He emphasises that young boys must learn that being a man does not equate to substance abuse or mistreatment of women. The project is particularly significant as it addresses the urgent need for young men to take accountability for the high rates of GBV.

Neo advocates for early intervention, stating that by educating children at a young age, society can break the cycle of violence. He hopes to create a safer environment for women, where men can express their emotions freely without stigma.

Despite the challenges he faces, including hearing about the violence experienced by many children, he finds joy in his interactions with young boys across various schools. “I invite other youth to become FearLess Together advocates, encouraging them to start campaigns in their schools to promote change.”

Neo’s work highlights the importance of mentorship and guidance for young boys. As he learns more about the complexities of GBV, he remains committed to fostering a respectful partnership between young men and women. His message is clear: “Together, we can build a brighter future.”
