Succulents galore for plant enthusiasts

The Johannesburg Succulent Society held its annual show where prize-winning plants were on display and a variety on sale at a successful event in Fairland.

The Johannesburg Succulent Society held its annual show at Fairland Walk Shopping Centre and said it was one of their most successful ever.

Chairman of the group, Gerhard Sieburg said, “We had to change venues at virtually the last minute, which was stressful, but it has turned out wonderfully.”

Apart from succulent lovers who made a deliberate effort to attend the event, shoppers of the centre happened upon it unintentionally. Sieburg said this additional stream of visitors was ‘great’ and said new people had become members as a result.

The aims and objectives of the society are to promote knowledge about the water-wise plants and to cultivate and propagate them with a view to contributing to their protection and conservation.

They meet monthly on the first Saturday of the month at 14:00 at the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens where talks are given, plants are sold and where enthusiasts can mingle.
