The call to rise and go answered in Victory Park

Recently, De La Salle Holy Cross College gathered to honour the launch of a special book within their Holy Cross community.

On September 20, De La Salle Holy Cross College celebrated the launch of a very meaningful book, Rise Up and Go – an account of the Sisters of the Holy Cross in the Southern African Province from 1980–2022 written by Sister (Sr) Maureen Rooney.

College principal Neil Berndsen said the book is an account of resilience, joy, accompaniment, challenges, providence, and a limitless hope, all rooted in Christ. It is a living testimony of the power of God’s will in all our lives, of active evangelisation, and the strength and commitment that lies within the heart of a religious vocation.

He continued that Rise Up and Go is so much more than a book – it is a call to action, a source of inspiration, and an example of God’s love. It is a voyage through time – a blessing. “To Sr Maureen Rooney who wrote the book and to all of the sisters who are the story that is the book… congratulations, and most importantly, thank you!

“On behalf of the college, I would like to say to the sisters, although as lay people we cannot walk directly in the shoes of a Holy Cross Sister, we can give thanks for the gift of having an unobstructed view into your incredible lives.”

Berndsen also thanked Sr Maureen for including them in her ministry, and for always extending a welcoming hand, graciously inviting them to rise up and go along with her.
