Threads that leave you feeling limitless in Brixton

Fashion designer, Fraynix sews us into his love for clothes,

Maya Angelou once said in part, ‘People will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel’.

Nothing is more true when it comes to local fashion designer Frazão Júnior, more commonly known as Fraynix. This vintage collector, whose Brixton-based studio stocks casual unisex wear, has the mightiness to make you feel as though it is through his fashions that you yield the ultimate power to be your truest self.

For the Mozambican, fashion has always been around him for as far back as he can remember. “My father being someone who was fashion conscious sort of instilled the love for fashion in me.”

He had always preferred to make his own customised apparel, starting from as young as 10 years old. One of the first pieces of clothing he customised was transforming a pair of jeans into cargo shorts.

When he moved to South Africa with a few of his family when he was about 17 years old, he packed with him the ambition to make his mark in any space he would find himself in in future.

Fraynix says all his creations are upcycled, to fit his environmentally friendly approach to creating clothes. This type of fashion leaves him feeling invigorated. His ultimate goal with his fashions and designs has always been about standing out in society where others may try to mimic.

“[Fashion] has got me into places and introduced me to people who under any other circumstances I would not have met,” he said when asked how this skill has impacted his life.

He hopes his work impacts his community through environmental preservation as well as it bolstering a sense of self-expression with little limitations.
