Lindenfees gets community out and about

Hoërskool Linden hosted yet another annual event that saw people have fun with families and friends.

Hoërskool Linden gave the community a great reason to step out of their homes to enjoy an awesome day out.

How did they manage such a feat? Well, through their annual Lindenfees of course! This is one of the school’s highlight events of the year and quite arguably their biggest.

marketing manager Ané Groenewald said the festival is an incredible opportunity for the school, their community and learners to gather and enjoy a night of good music and great company, “We have found that this event reunites our alumni, old friends and people who have made an impact in the school. It’s always just great fun as well.”

Festivalgoers enjoyed their pick of 12 gourmet food and drink stalls as well as firepits to keep them warm which only added to the festival vibe. There was an inflatable fun park, various themed photo-booths they called ‘instagramville’.

The highlight of the day were performances by Early B, Justin Vega and Afrikaans rock band, Spoegwolf.

This event has been running at the school since about 2015, in its early years it was called Wildfees. Back then the day was just a way for parents and learners to gather. Now it has grown to be a big, much-anticipated event, which this year saw about 2 600 attend – their biggest numbers yet. The money raised here goes back into the school, as it used to improve the school. Groenwald explained these improvement projects take up a lot of funds and the festival helps them improve the grounds, facilities and it also ensures that they can provide and improve all their academic, sports and cultural resources so their learners have the best learning environment possible.

When asked why such events are great for the community, Groenwald noted how over the years they saw the loyalty and love people have for their school. “The community is so special. An event like this provides people the opportunity to reunite, to gather and to connect and celebrate not only the school but also each other. It is always special to see everyone again and have a good time together.”
