Being a content creator has always been a dream for Zukhanye

He explains his journey before and after he went viral on TikTok.

My name is Zukhanye Qabe. Growing up I was always inspired to be part of the SABC youth shows like YoTV and Hectic Nine9. I was glued to the television screen from 15:30 to 16:30 watching all those shows back-to-back.

Things started making sense for me when I got my first radio show after matric in 2019. The opportunity was the start of more incredible things in my life. On June 26, a dream became a reality for me when my first TikTok video went viral, receiving millions of views in less than 16 hours.

I did not understand why everything was happening because the love that I received was overwhelming and amazing. I am currently sitting on 372 000 followers with 9.1m likes in just two months in the content creation field.

I would also like to work with fashion brands, and artists and host TV shows around Africa before the end of the year.

For me, it all started in 2015 when I entered the school talent show as a dancer.

Fast forward to late 2016 I recorded my first single titled Izinto zeSummer but it was not released due to some complications.

But I later released a song, titled Kuzomoshakalam that introduced me to the music scene and creativity. Things went south when I lost my mother at the age of 18 and had to find a way to stay in the game and school and be there for my 12-year-old brother.

I describe my experience as traumatic but blessed. Yes, we lost her and she was the pillar of our family, someone we looked up to, but because she taught us how to live life, it was up to us to survive as she becomes our angel. I was recently an extra on Miseducation (Netflix) and I am still finding a way to stay in the industry.
