Being a student leader

Langa says that a leader needs someone who is determined to lead with honesty.

Mokadi Terrence Langa writes,

My name is Mokadi Terrence Langa. I am the chairperson of the EFFSC-led Student Representative Council and I was the deputy chairperson of the EFFSC at the University of Johannesburg which has been a great journey.

The journey of student leadership involves growth, responsibility and challenges. Difficulties may include managing time, balancing academics and leadership commitments, handling conflicts within the team of governance, and making tough decisions that may affect students.

However, these challenges offer valuable learning experiences and personal development opportunities.

In 2022, I became the deputy chairperson of the EFFSC Branch Students Command team. I was also a tutor at the Educational Project of UJ Community Engagement and participated in Phakamani Young Minds Academy for tutoring purposes. This made me build discipline as a leader.

In 2023, I became the Student Representative Council chairperson of the UJ Doornfontein Campus. I can say that being a leader is something that is within myself and I lead with passion and hard work.

I’m a friendly person, I work well in a team but also on my own as I like to set myself goals which I will achieve. I have good listening and communication skills. I have a creative mind and am always up for new challenges.
