On one perfect winter’s afternoon in Victory Park, grandparents of De La Salle Holy Cross College Junior School were invited to Wemmicksville for an end-of-term concert.
They dotingly watched as their grandchildren, portrayed characters from Max Lucado’s best-selling book, You Are Special.
The foundation phase enchanted audiences with songs sung and great acting. The story followed Punchinello, a wooden Wemmick who believes she is not good enough because of what others say about her. Punchinello eventually meets Eli the woodcarver, who reminds her she is special no matter what others may think of her.
The children’s portrayal of the play was a tear-jerker that brought with it a smile of contentment through its powerful message.
After the concert, grandparents were invited to tea in the garden that they enjoyed with their grandchildren.
