National Science Week observed at Emmarentia Botanical Gardens

Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo hosted 560 learners and exhibitors who enjoyed an exciting and educational day aimed at demystifying the sciences.

Lucky learners got out of the classroom and out into nature, and learnt about the fun of science during National Science Week.

The week was observed at the Emmarentia Botanical Gardens by learners who were hosted by Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo).

The Department of Science and Technology initiated the observance week to create awareness about the importance of science in our daily lives. It was also an opportunity to introduce learners to career paths in the field. The theme for 2023 was ‘Transforming lives through evidence-based science’.

At Emmarentia, 560 learners and exhibitors participated. Learners engaged in problem-solving on topics, such as alternative energy solutions and building sustainable plans for green energy in communities. “Hydropower exhibits were on show as were solar panels and other innovative alternative options,” said spokesperson for City Parks Noeleen Mattera
