A winter market with a difference in Fairland

Non-profit organisation, Faithful Kindness, hosted its second market of the year.

A winter market came to Fairland recently and its intention was to cast the season’s blues away.

Hosted by the non-profit organisation Faithful Kindness, it was the second of three markets hosted throughout the year at NG Kerk Fairland.

Adele van Zyl, the organisation’s founder and co-owner, said the market had a plethora of vendors who each sold distinct items, allowing each one to showcase whatever talent/skill they had.

A portion of the funds raised through the market goes towards buying food for 60 impoverished households that the organisation assists regularly. In Van Zyl’s opinion, it is important for people to give back to communities as every time you give back, you receive even more.

One of the stalls found at the market this time around was My Walk School Shoes. Its vendor, Tom Miles, explained how the organisation used recycled plastic medical waste, such as oxygen masks and associated tubing, to make school shoes for underprivileged children. Visitors of the market gave R50 to Miles to purchase the shoes which were then given to Van Zyl so she could send them to communities through her organisation.

Van Zyl also spoke on the work done by all the vendors and how, in some instances, this is their bread and butter and it’s just as important for her to help them be able to put food on the table for their families.

The last market of the year will be the Christmas edition.
