Street Store comes to Northcliff

Doxa Deo hosted a Street Store at Tshepo Community Development that aided many in our community.

Times are tough, but they are arguably even tougher for those who have much less than others in our communities.

That’s why for one day, members of Doxa Deo, recently held a Street Store at Northcliff-based Tshepo Community Development Initiative to help those in need.

Street Store is described as the world’s first rent-free, premises-free, free pop-up clothing store for the homeless. Street Stores [https://www.thestreetstore.org/] can be held across the world, by any organisation or group. In Doxa Deo’s case, different churches across the country gathered clothes and sorted them to create a shopping experience for the homeless.

Those that attended did so through invitation and were each given a certain amount of clothing, food, and something to drink and were also prayed for by church members.

Alwyn Kruger, a member of the church, said they host such an event yearly, saying “It’s an opportunity to make our congregation aware of the community’s need, it brings our community together and we have an opportunity to serve those who need it.”

Kruger explained that the Northcliff event helped about 250 people who came from varying communities. He said that as Doxa Deo they believe, “God gave us a mandate to see His glory in our city, and to do that we want to be a blessing to everyone so they can experience God’s Grace and love.”
